Recap | Boxscore

TORONTO (Ticker) -- After losing star shortstop Derek Jeter, the New York Yankees continue a three-game series with the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday afternoon.

Jeter, one of the key components to New York's four titles in the last seven years, suffered a dislocated shoulder after a violent collision with Blue Jays catcher Ken Huckaby at third base in the third inning of Monday's season opener and will be sidelined indefinitely.

X-rays for the normally durable Jeter were negative and an MRI is scheduled in the next few days. The lifetime .317 hitter has not missed more than 14 games in any of his first seven seasons.

Enrique Wilson is expected to start in place of Jeter. Wilson was hitless in three at-bats on Monday.

New York rode a solid outing from Roger Clemens in winning the season opener, 8-0. Clemens yielded three hits in six innings and Alfonso Soriano belted his first career grand slam.

The Yankees saw rookie imports Hideki Matsui and Jose Contreras make their debuts. Matsui had an RBI single in the first inning and Contreras allowed two runs and two hits in 1 2/3 innings.

Blue Jays third baseman Eric Hinske, last year's American League Rookie of the Year, had two hits and a pair of RBI. Toronto outhit New York, 9-7.

Andy Pettitte (13-5, 3.40 ERA) gets the start for New York. Pettitte is the only pitcher since 1961 to win at least 12 games in each of his first eight seasons.

Pettitte, a lefthander, finished the 2002 season with five straight wins and won nine of his last 11 starts. He is 13-6 lifetime against Toronto with a 3.94 ERA and is 8-3 with a 4.50 ERA in 13 career games at SkyDome.

The Blue Jays will counter with Cory Lidle (8-10, 3.89), who was acquired from Oakland in exchange for a pair of minor leaguers. Lidle, who has spent time with Tampa Bay and the New York Mets, went 21-16 over the last two years for the Athletics.

The 31-year-old righthander went 1-1 with a 3.21 ERA in a pair of starts against the Yankees last season. He is 4-1 lifetime against New York with a 3.45 ERA, but lost to the Yanks in the 2001 AL Division Series with Oakland.
